Yo-Yo Performance
HUMOR Are you being driven in your performance because you are doing what you love to do., Or do You sometimes feel that Success is consuming you" Some people feel that both of these statements are accurate. Others feet that life is playing some sort of joke on them, Things start out great and the good becomes sour or they bump into a wall. Clarity or a different approach seems to be needed, yet does not come with ordinary effort change of pace or reorganized approach. Sustained success appears to be elusive.
One individual is having tremendous amount of fun in their career which another is miserable. Another is excited about their work and loves it while at the same time they are feeling overwhelmed, overworked and can never feel they can take time away. Still another loves the career they have chosen, tremendously enjoys the clientele and can never quite make the grade in terms of creating a thriving business. In tile next cubicle, a brilliant person has his or her initial excitement squelched, regroups to try another approach- becomes excited again only to discover that once more there is a slow dissolution of that excitement. This pattern seems to repeat itself
Some of the most insidious performance difficulties seem to be outside the self, as if "they" are doing "It" to you. Although you love what you are doing, it seems as though h you are never "permitted" to go beyond a certain point or to the next level. You work hard at something which could be play. You play or have fun with what you are working at and get hampered by influences which seem extraneous.
Some people are constantly reading, attending seminars, going back to school, choosing coaches or mentors and so forth because they are very busy trying to find out how to make work easier. They observe someone else having fun and/ or success at their work and think that the other person is on a joy ride. They think that others have it easier or know the answer, so they want to perform that way too- Sometimes additional education or information gives the edge that is sought, but more often, it does not.
Each of us has a pattern of behavior related to performance which has been imprinted in our very cells; something I call the Cellular Response System. The body automatically without any prompting whatsoever from our conscious thinking, replicates these patterns. We are " permitted" by this subconscious ,ystem to function only within those established regulatory boundaries. The good news is that this system can be changed. We can change or eliminate those blueprints which do not serve us or interfere with Our performance.
Insight usually will not alter this programming. Neither is it necessary to dig through your past (even though that is when the programming occurred) or search for who did what to imprint your Cellular Response System. Although it may be quite helpful at times to gain awareness, one must go beyond awareness in order to be relieved of yo-yo performance, or in order to establish peak performance. It is possible and desirable to reprogram the Cellular Response System so that you may move toward your highest good and best performance. |
